Yacht Lettering travels far and wide

Illuminated signage created by Applelec Yacht is now brightly glowing across the Eden Island Marina in the Seychelles. Supplied to a southern African client by Sunseeker Seychelles Ltd, and sent to the Sunseeker factory in Poole, Dorset for fitting, this yacht signage has been on quite a journey before reaching its final destination.

Loosely translating as ‘to live’, the phrase ‘à la vie’ spans approximately 1000mm across the back of the boat in yacht lettering supplied from our YachtLightWorks range. Featuring a choice of illumination effects, partial side illumination was selected from the range with the addition of flat cut metal letter faces.

Partial side illumination was achieved by painting half of the 20mm deep returns, leaving half of the of acrylic at the back of the letters exposed where warm white LED’s create subtle side illumination.

Darren Thrower, Applelec Yacht international project director comments: ‘Although the lettering gives a warm glow, each of our illuminated letters run cool to the touch by embedding acrylic with thermally managed LEDs. I feel warm white LEDs create softer, less clinical looking light, which is why they are becoming increasingly popular for illuminated yacht signage.’

As a newly built Sunseeker 63 Manhattan, the illuminated yacht lettering was secured to the boat using stud fixings in the production process of the yacht itself before being shipped to the client. Now residing on the yacht in the Seychelles, this signage really knows what it means ‘to live’.
